There are certain things in this world that some people can pull off and others can’t. Take Bruce Jenner for example, why is his man bun so wrong when Jared Leto’s is just so right?
I wish I knew the answer, it’s just the way the cookie crumbles I suppose. You know what they say, ‘you wont know until you try!’ The only way to find which way your cookie crumbles is through trial and error.
Poor Bruce is really fighting the error part– God love ’em! I don’t know if he’s trying to be a man or a woman at this point but either way the long hair has got to go.
Like Bruce, I have had my fair share of errors in the hair department.
I often find myself so gung-ho to rock a new haircut until someone tells me it will never work with my hair type. FYI—I have abnormally thick, fuzzy hair. Yes ‘fuzzy’, it’s not all that frizzy just wavy and full.
Don’t challenge me on that either. Everyone loves to say– “Your hair can’t possibly be as unruly as mine!”
A hairdresser lost a brush in mine once and I had to retrieve it. True story! (Side note: I never went back to this hairdresser– losing a brush is not a good sign.)
Sometimes I go through these unfortunate phases where I’m all—“I’m a grown woman, I can do whatever I want” and I end up going through with the cut and hating myself for the next 6 months.
I mean there was the full frontal bang phase last year, that really taught me a lesson. Not only were they high maintenance but getting used to hair sitting on your forehead is almost impossible.
The only positive from the front bangs were how they grew into side bangs eventually. They looked cute!
The side bang started growing out not too long ago so I tried to freshen them up a bit. Word to the wise—don’t cut your own hair. Several professionals have advised me of this but I keep forgetting.
The portion of bangs I cut were far too thick and suddenly they were shorter than I planned. They still look bizarre as hell and I cut them almost 4 months ago.
Lately I’ve really been wanting to go for a ‘lob’ a.k.a the long bob. I am loving Nicole Richie’s lob! I need to talk myself down though—“don’t do this Jules. You know you’ll regret it. Think of how much your long hair means to you!”
In the end I think I just need Nicole to style me a new look:
